If you are interested in learning more about .NET and related technologies from talented like-minded developers, this group is for you. Best of all, it’s free to join. The regular monthly meetings feature speakers from around Michigan who provide their insights on .NET and other relevant software developer topics.

 

The meetings are typically on the 2nd or 3rd Thursday of each month at 5:30 PM. The food and drinks (including beer) are provided by Brightwing & Spud Software.

TOPIC: Entity Framework with Spud Software’s Nathan Brady

For our October meetup, Nathan Brady,  Director of Product Development at Spud Software, will present Entity Framework.

 

Entity Framework enables .NET developers to work with relational data using domain-specific objects. It eliminates the need for most of the data-access code that developers usually need to write.

 

With nearly 20 years of programming and software development experience, Nathan has seen a staggering number of changes in the tech industry. Nathan enjoys working with Spud’s clients to take their ideas as far as they can go, considering the technologies, methodology and approach that will help them achieve goals beyond their original vision.

• Internet of Things (hardware overview)

 

Ryan Berry is an experienced software engineering professional having architected and built large scale fault-tolerant systems across a number of vertical industries including manufacturing, retail and e-commerce. Skilled with development tools and technologies across the Microsoft stack such as .NET, WCF, ASP.NET, Azure and SilverLight, Ryan is detail-oriented developer and problem solver with a background in Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) process improvement.

For our July meetup, Brian Korzynski, Lead Developer at UseTech Design will go in depth about Microsoft’s .NET Compiler Platform, also known as Roslyn.

 

To be discussed:

• What Roslyn is and why it’s resourceful

• What components Roslyn includes

• How we can use Roslyn in our everyday code

Brian will also create an example utilizing the code analyzers to show how you can do some cool things to your code!

 

Brian Korzynski is the lead developer of a Michigan based consultancy specializing in Microsoft technologies. Every day he works to provide business value to his customers across a wide variety of industries, including healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, and finance. He specializes in data structures & algorithms, large scale data processing, distributed architecture, and mathematics.

 

As always, we will start off with complementary food/beer(soda,water) and socializing, followed by a professional presentation.

TOPIC: ALTERNATE LANGUAGES FOR THE CLR
This month, RIIS Software Developer, Onorio Catenacci, will discuss alternate languages for the CLR. Most developers think of C# and .Net as being synonymous but this is a bit of a misconception. There are other languages available to the .Net developer – languages that can make certain jobs much easier and less error-prone.

 

Onorio will discuss some of these alternate .Net languages and how to integrate them into a .Net project. Onorio is a software developer with 20+ years of experience. He’s especially interested in functional programming and he lead the F# special interest group in Southfield for several years. He also led the Great Lakes Functional Programming Conference in Ann Arbor in 2012.

Brightwing Is Attending the 2011 Greater Detroit Engineering and IT Career Fair
