Tues, July 14 – Unix / Linux Users in Farmington Hills

We’ve all heard about systemd. Whatever your feelings about it the majority of Linux Distributions have adopted it in some fashion. Scott Tobias will walk us through systemd, including what it is, who is adopting it, and why Linux Administrators need to know systemd (even if they don’t care for it). And if you’re not fully up to speed on System V initialization he’ll also cover some of the differences between the two. You’ll also learn about Service Units – the “basic” unit type, Unit file configurationi, Systemctl – systemd’s Swiss Army Knife, and Journald / journalctl. It’s a presentation you won’t want to miss!

Wed, July 15 – Developer’s Guide to Penetration Testing

For the last several years, Bill Sempf has taken his twenty years of web development experience to application pentesting. Although he didn’t have a televised event to announce ‘the decision,’ he has gathered a vast collection of the real problems he has discovered in the majority of applications that he has tested. Reflected XSS, injection of all types, and privilege escalation are rampant, and that is only the beginning. What’s more, he hasn’t tested an application yet that had sufficient protection to keep him from breaking in and causing havoc. Come hear what they are, how they intersect with the OWASP Top 10, and what you can say to your developers to make the problems go away.

Thurs, July 16 – Grand Blanc .NET User Group Monthly Meetup

For our July meetup, Brian Korzynski, Lead Developer at UseTech Design will go in depth about Microsoft’s .NET Compiler Platform, also known as Roslyn. Brian will discuss what Roslyn is and why it’s resourceful, what components Roslyn includes, and how we can use Roslyn in our everyday code. He will also create an example utilizing the code analyzers to show how you can do some cool things to your code!

As always, we will start off with complementary food/beer(soda,water) and socializing, followed by a professional presentation.

Thurs, July 16 – Maker Faire Build Competition – Pitch Session

When: 6:30 – 8:30 pm | Where: TechShop Detroit – 800 Republic , Allen Park, MI

What would you build on a 40″ X 49″ trailer? Pitch your idea to your TechShop peers on July 16 and you could be selected for the 48-hour Make-a-Thon running at the shop the weekend before Maker Faire Detroit. Six people will be given a trailer and 48 hours to construct their mobile dream project. All projects will be exhibited at Maker Faire Detroit at the TechShop zone where the public will vote for their favorites. Results will be announced at TechShop Detroit’s post-Maker Faire open house on Saturday, August 1st.

Mon, July 20 – Fri, July 24 – Automated Vehicles Symposium 2015

When: Times Vary | Where: Ann Arbor Marriott – 1275 S Huron St, Ypsilanti, MI

The Automated Vehicles Symposium 2015 will be a multidisciplinary forum designed to advance the deployment of automated vehicles. Each day will kick off with high-level presentations by some of the brightest minds in the field. Network over lunch, and then in the afternoon, choose from interactive breakout sessions where you can go in-depth with your colleagues, share perspectives and have an open dialogue on the industry’s most pressing issues.

Five presenters this month take the stage for ten minutes each, five minutes to demo and five minutes to answer questions, followed by open announcements and community networking. E-mail organizers at a2newtech.org if you’d like to present!
